San Cristóbal Viewpoint: The Panorama That Embraces All of Cusco
The San Cristóbal Viewpoint is one of the most impressive spots on the Cusco Tourist Tram route (www.tranviacusco.com). The tram passes directly below and beside the viewpoint, giving you a perfect, unobstructed view without having to get off.
The first thing you notice is the large white stone cross that crowns the small hill, flanked by two bronze bells and an observation platform with metal railings. Behind it stands the simple white façade of the colonial San Cristóbal church, with its two-level bell tower and red-tiled roof.
From your tram window you enjoy a wide, open panorama:
- The entire Plaza de Armas right in front of you, with the Cathedral and La Compañía de Jesús perfectly centered.
- A continuous sea of red clay-tiled rooftops stretching to the horizon.
- To the left, the Qoricancha and the straight line of Avenida El Sol.
- To the right, the San Blas neighborhood climbing the hillside with its stacked white houses.
- In the background, green hills and, on clear days, distant snow-capped peaks.
The viewpoint sits about 150 meters above the city center, so the perspective is broad and completely clear. The sun hits the rooftops directly, making them glow in warm orange and red tones—especially stunning at sunset (included in several of our tour times). The white cross and church stand out sharply against the blue Andean sky, creating the classic postcard image everyone recognizes instantly.
As the tram moves slowly along Calle Siete Angelitos and Avenida Don Bosco, the view opens up dramatically and you have several minutes to take photos from different angles. It’s one of the most complete and photogenic panoramas of the entire route—many passengers say it’s their favorite photo of Cusco.
Book your ride on the Cusco Tourist Tram and enjoy this privileged viewpoint included in the tour!
