Plaza Regocijo of Cusco: What You’ll See from the Tram

Plaza Regocijo (also known as Plaza del Regocijo) is a small, rectangular square located just one block from the Plaza de Armas, bordered by Portal de Carnes, Calle Plateros, Portal de Panes, and Heladeros streets.

Visual appearance from the outside:

  • Perfect square shape surrounded by four white colonial façades with arched porticos and dark wooden balconies.
  • In the center: a three-tier stone fountain topped with an armillary sphere; water flows from four side spouts.
  • Ground covered with stone slabs and well-kept green lawn, divided into four symmetrical garden sections.
  • Tall molle and pisonay trees that provide shade over most of the square.
  • Balconies filled with pots of red geraniums and seasonal flowers.
  • Classic colonial-style wrought-iron street lamps at each corner.

From the Cusco Tourist Tram (www.tranviacusco.com) you get an excellent view when we pass along Calle Plateros or Portal de Carnes. The tram moves slowly in this area, giving you plenty of time to observe and photograph the entire square from different angles without getting off.

It’s a quiet, bright, green spot – perfect for quick photos of classic colonial Cusco without the crowds of the main Plaza de Armas.

Book your seat and enjoy this view included in our historic center route!
